The Skillians aims to crack the edtech code by reskilling and upskilling college students

Introduction

In a rapidly evolving job market, acquiring the right skills is paramount to success. Recognizing this, Delhi-based startup Skillians Academy has positioned itself as a game-changer in the edtech space. By focusing on reskilling and upskilling college students and working professionals, Skillians is bridging the gap between traditional education and the demands of the tech industry.

The genesis of Skillians

The idea for Skillians Academy was born out of a significant challenge faced by Chaitanya Sharma, the youngest Vice President at a Stealth Startup. While navigating the complexities of hiring tech talent, Chaitanya discovered that many college students were struggling to secure jobs due to a lack of appropriate skills. As a business and tech enthusiast, this realization was a turning point for Chaitanya. He understood that the education system required a drastic shift to meet the needs of the modern workforce.

Driven by this vision, Chaitanya, along with his batchmates from NMIMS Mumbai, founded Skillians in 2021 in the Delhi-NCR region. The startup began as an offline teaching center with a focus on coding education, funded by a Rs 5 crore investment from HNIs through their hedge fund. However, they quickly recognized the limitations of the offline model and the challenges it posed in maintaining the quality and scalability of their services.

Transition to an online platform

To overcome these challenges, Skillians transitioned to a fully online platform. This shift allowed them to deliver quality education with consistency and reach a broader audience. “Our motive has been to deliver quality education with consistency, which is why we transitioned from an offline to an online platform,” says Chaitanya. The platform now offers 100% live programs, 24/7 doubt-solving assistance by teaching assistants, and a practice platform called Judge0, providing students with a classroom-like experience from the comfort of their homes.

Course offerings

Skillians is primarily focused on college students who are eager to learn new programming skills or enhance their existing skill set and who want to specialize in Data science , artificial intelligence and Full Stack Development. The platform’s offerings are designed with coding at the core of the curriculum. One of the key differentiators of Skillians is its use of MAANG (Meta, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Google) alumni to deliver hyper-understandable lectures from scratch. This hands-on approach by doing projects via programming ensures that students gain practical experience and are well-prepared for the industry.

The coding courses offered by Skillians are personalized and designed to meet industry standards. The platform also provides various support features, such as the ability to audio call, video call, and screen share or chat with teaching assistants, ensuring that students receive the help they need to succeed.

Community and placement support

In addition to its educational offerings, Skillians placement cell fosters a strong community through Discord groups where students can interact with mentors and batchmates. These groups provide a platform for solving problems, discussing projects, and learning new coding techniques. The startup also places a significant emphasis on placements, boasting a pool of multinational companies like Facebook, Google, Netflix, Amdocs, Deloitte, Persistent Systems, Amazon, and Shuttl, among others.

“Our placement cell has a pool of multinational companies,” says Chaitanya. The success of Skillians is evident in its growing community, with over 4,000 students and 1,500 alumni who have secured positions in top tech companies. The startup also employs over 150 individuals, including 40+ teaching assistants, dedicated to helping students achieve their career goals.

Conclusion

Skillians Academy is more than just an edtech platform; it is a movement aimed at transforming the way tech education is delivered. By focusing on practical, hands-on coding education and leveraging the expertise of industry professionals, Skillians is equipping the next generation of tech talent with the skills they need to thrive in a competitive job market.
